Hilary & DJ - Wedding At Pittsburgh's National Aviary
Last Saturday I had the honor to photograph Hilary and DJ’s wedding at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh, PA. This was a wedding I’d been looking forward to for months, and it lived up to my expectations. There were songbirds in the trees, books on the tables, and penguins overseeing the ceremony. I loved the mix of the poetic and the surreal, and think it made for an especially poignant set of photographs. Thanks Hilary and DJ for having me photograph your special day.
Here are a few of my favorite photos from the day:
Jorge did an incredible job with our wedding photography! He’s extremely friendly and easy to talk to about the kind of photographs we wanted — some posed portraits, but mostly casual and fun. He did a great job organizing our families for the posed portraits (and worked quickly so the grandmas could sit down in the shade). He was really creative with coming up with neat shots for the bridesmaids and groomsmen in a nearby park — on a bridge, near a sculpture — and he kept everyone laughing and feeling very much at ease. He also captured some beautiful details of the day, like a picture of our wedding rings together and also our wedding invitation. He was also very helpful about giving us options to stay within our budget. After our wedding day, he sent us a sneak peek at some pictures within 24 hours and he’s sending us a DVD of all the hi-res images just two and a half weeks after our wedding. He also set up a web site where we and our families can order photographs in a lot of different sizes if we want. I want to stress again how gorgeous his photography is. We didn’t think we could afford a whole lot to spend on photography, but Jorge was worth every penny and then some!!!
